Onside Kicks

1) Do not give a fumble to a player on the receiving team, unless he had possession of the football and tried to advance before a fumble on an onside kick.

Example I: Team A kicks the ball onsides to Team B. Ball bounces off the hands of B-88 and goes out of bounds at the A 42. Scoring: Twelve kickoff yards for the kicker on Team A. Do not charge a fumble or a kick return to B-88.

Example II: Team A kicks the ball onsides to Team B. B-88 catches the ball, and is immediately hit by A 27 at the A 42 yardline. The ball bounces out of bounds at the A 42. Scoring: Twelve kickoff yards for the kicker on Team A. Do not charge a fumble or a kick return to B-88, since he did not try to advance.

Example III: Team A kicks the ball onsides to Team B. B-88 catches the ball, at the A 42 yardline. He runs to the A 40, where he is hit by A-27 and fumbles the ball. The ball bounces out of bounds at the A 40. Scoring: Twelve kickoff yards for the kicker on Team A. Two kickoff return yards for B-88. One fumble for B-88. One forced fumble for A-27.
